Blueair and Lanaco Target Air Quality with First Natural Fiber Filters

Wool-Based Filtration System Seeks to Reduce Reliance on Plastic and Synthetic Materials

Posted

Blueair, a company specializing in air purification, has partnered with New Zealand-based Lanaco to develop the first high-performance electrostatic filters made from wool and plant fibers. This collaboration focuses on advancing sustainable air purification technologies in the industry.

Natural Materials Meet Cutting-Edge Technology

Known for its proprietary HEPASilent dual filtration technology, Blueair has partnered with Lanaco to combine advanced air purification with Lanaco’s EcoStatic filter technology, which uses positive and negative fiber surface charges to capture particulate matter.

The new filters are made entirely from natural materials, providing a sustainable alternative to the oil-based plastics and synthetics typically used in air purifiers. Wool’s inherent properties, such as fire resistance and hydrophobicity, enhance the filters’ effectiveness and durability, aligning with Blueair’s commitment to high-performance and environmentally friendly materials.

A Strategic Move in a Growing Market

This collaboration addresses the growing concern over indoor air quality, which can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, driving increased demand for effective air purification solutions.

The initiative aligns with Blueair’s broader growth strategy, emphasizing consumer education on air quality through innovative products. Blueair's recent “Air Designed for a Better Life” campaign highlights the critical role of clean indoor air in improving sleep, mood, and overall health.

Market Impact and Availability

The first Lanaco wool filters are expected to be available for select Blueair units in the U.S. and European markets by the end of the year, providing consumers with a high-performance, sustainable option that meets the increasing demand for environmentally conscious products.

This partnership between Blueair and Lanaco highlights the potential of industry collaboration to set new standards in air purification technology, benefitting both consumers and the environment.
