Residential solar technology and energy services provider SunPower has signed deals with four home builders -- Beazer Homes, CC Homes, Meritage Homes, and Toll Brothers -- to install solar power systems in select communities.
The four deals represent nearly 1,000 solar homes across eight states. News of the deals comes as the United States is making a bigger push toward renewable energy, including solar, thanks in part to the Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law last year. The law included several provisions assisting the shift to renewable energy, including numerous incentives and tax credits for solar power projects.
“Builders are trying to appeal to today's energy-conscious homebuyer who is concerned about the high cost of powering their home," Matt Brost, vice president of New Homes sales for SunPower, said in a statement. "Forward-thinking builders who incorporate a renewable infrastructure from day one can reduce the cost of homeownership, provide a shield against rising energy bills, and positively address climate change. That's exactly what Beazer Homes, CC Homes, Meritage Homes, and Toll Brothers are doing."
SunPower’s new home business saw record sales in the second quarter this year, with $108 million in bookings, representing 11% growth year-over-year.
SunPower is working with Beazer Homes, CC Homes, Meritage Homes, and Toll Brothers in the new deals.
Beazer Homes said it is the first national homebuilder that has committed to meeting the requirements of the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home program with every new home they build by 2025. The program requires homes to offset most or all of their energy use through rigorous efficiency and performance criteria.
The new deal with SunPower will add solar power to 125 homes in Maryland and Delaware, including the company’s Chase Oaks development in Lewes, Delaware, and all future homes built at Holly Farms in Parkville, Maryland. All homes in these communities will be DOE Zero Energy Ready Home certified.
CC Homes is one of the largest private builders in Florida and will now offer SunPower solar systems to all homeowners in their communities. The deal with SunPower is expected to retrofit hundreds of households within CC Homes' communities with SunPower's solar panels. It also includes plans to add solar into future builds from the onset.
Meritage Homes is the fifth-largest home builder in the United States, and the company is now expanding its relationship with SunPower beyond California to include homes in Colorado with plans to include solar as a standard feature on single-family homes and townhomes in the Denver area.
Toll Brothers, a luxury home builder, said it plans to expand solar offerings to all new home communities in California, Nevada, New York, and Massachusetts. The deal expands the current partnership with SunPower from beyond California homes.
